MarineLife ID

Terms of Service

Last updated 16 October 2026 · Yume Unbound LLC

⚠️ Read this part first: safety

MarineLife ID identifies marine life using artificial intelligence, and it will sometimes be wrong. Treat every identification as a suggestion to check, not an answer to trust.

Never use this app to decide whether a creature is safe to touch, approach, handle, provoke, collect or eat.

Many marine animals are venomous, toxic or otherwise dangerous, and several of them closely resemble harmless species. Camouflaged and bottom-dwelling fish — scorpionfish and stonefish among them — are precisely where automated identification is least reliable. A confident-looking label in this app is not a safety assessment and must never be used as one.

For anything that matters, consult a qualified local expert, your dive operator or a published regional field guide. In an emergency, contact local emergency services or a poison control centre. You dive at your own risk and remain responsible for your own safety and that of anyone with you.

These Terms are an agreement between you and Yume Unbound LLC ("Yume Unbound", "we", "us"), a limited liability company registered in the State of Tennessee, United States. They govern your use of the MarineLife ID app.

1.Accepting these Terms

By downloading or using MarineLife ID you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. If you are using it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept on its behalf.

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if that is the minimum age in your country, to use the app.

2.What the app does

MarineLife ID lets you record dive trips, submit your own underwater photos for automated species identification, build a lifetime list of what you have seen, and create shareable cards from your dives.

Identification requires an internet connection and depends on a third-party AI service operated by Google. Your records, once created, remain readable on your device without a connection.

3.The limits of identification

In addition to the safety warning above:

Where you share a card or export created by the app, you are responsible for the claims it makes once it leaves your hands.

4.Your photos and your records stay yours

You keep all rights in your photographs and in the records you create. We claim no ownership of them.

You grant us only the narrow permission we actually need: to transmit a reduced-size copy of a photo you have chosen to our AI provider so it can be identified, and to process it for that purpose. That permission exists to run the feature you asked for and for nothing else. We do not use your photos to train any model, we do not publish them, and we do not license them to anyone.

You confirm that you have the right to submit the photos you submit, and that doing so does not infringe anyone else's rights.

How this works in detail is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

5.Acceptable use

Please do not:

We may suspend or end access where these Terms are being broken, where there is a genuine risk to the service, or where we are required to.

6.Accounts, and using the app without one

An account is optional. You may use MarineLife ID as a guest with full functionality.

If you create an account using Sign in with Apple, you are responsible for keeping access to it secure. You can delete it from within the app at any time. Deleting your account does not delete your dive records — those live on your device and are yours; the app does not remove them, because they were never ours to remove. If you want them gone, delete them in the app or remove the app.

7.Paid features

MarineLife ID does not currently offer any paid subscription or in-app purchase. Everything in the app is available at no charge today.

We intend to introduce optional paid plans. If and when we do, the following will apply:

These Terms will be updated before any paid plan becomes available, and the app will link to the current version at the point of purchase.

8.Changes to the app and the service

We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop offering the app. The AI model the app uses may change at any time, which can alter results for the same photo. Where a change would remove something you rely on, we will give notice in the app where it is reasonably possible to do so.

Your records are stored on your device in a format you can export, so that a change on our side does not strand your data.

9.No warranty

MarineLife ID is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that identifications will be accurate, that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will be compatible with every device or operating system version.

10.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yume Unbound LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the app.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five United States dollars.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where the law does not allow it — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have rights under local consumer law that these Terms cannot reduce.

11.Apple is not a party to this agreement

This agreement is between you and Yume Unbound LLC only. Apple Inc. is not a party to it and has no obligations in respect of MarineLife ID.

Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and is not obliged to provide any maintenance or support for it. Any claim relating to the app — including product liability, a failure to conform to a legal requirement, or a consumer protection claim — is our responsibility and not Apple's. If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for handling it.

You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a United States embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any United States list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

12.Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts located in Tennessee will have jurisdiction — except where the mandatory law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, in which case that right is unaffected.

13.Other terms

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the app.

If we change these Terms we will update the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app before a material change takes effect.
